The List of Iran-Linked Crypto Exchanges Sanctioned by the US Has Reached Six; Aban Tether and Shelbit Added on Mordad 16

The US Treasury has sanctioned six Iran linked crypto exchanges in under three months. On Friday, August seventh, two more exchanges, Aban Tether and Shelbit, joined the list. That brings the count of sanctioned exchanges from four up to six. The first round came on June second, targeting Nobitex, Wallex, Bitpin, and Ramzinex. These six exchanges were sanctioned across two separate rounds, in June and August. About sixty six days passed between the first round and the second. Treasury calls this part of a maximum economic pressure campaign on Iran. Treasury claims over one million dollars moved from IRGC addresses to Shelbit, and two million moved back. The sanction does not freeze assets inside Iran directly, but it limits access to global liquidity. Users holding funds on sanctioned exchanges may face tighter limits when they try to withdraw. The Treasury Secretary said, whether in dollars, rials, or crypto, illicit networks will be hunted down. Aban Tether says the sanction creates no new restriction, a claim that remains unverified.
