Who actually holds your crypto? The answer to that question decides everything else. In this lesson we look at what owning crypto means and where to keep it. When you say you own tether, where it sits is what creates your risk. A private key is the secret that moves assets out of an address. A wallet holds no coins. It only holds your key and signs transactions. The recovery phrase, twelve or twenty four words, is the asset itself. A confirmed transaction is irreversible and no institution can void it. There are three places to hold, and none of them is risk free. On a centralized exchange the key is the company's. On a decentralized one, yours. In July twenty twenty six, Tether froze one hundred thirty one million dollars at four addresses. Suppose eight hundred dollars sit in a cold wallet and two hundred on the exchange. Suppose each withdrawal costs one and a half dollars. That is seven point two percent yearly. In September twenty twenty five, the Central Bank approved its crypto broker directive. Users sign a risk acknowledgment and the Central Bank disclaims responsibility for losses. Your verified account is your legal identity, and a legal identity is not rentable. Photographing your recovery phrase makes it exactly as vulnerable as your phone. Here is the one thing to remember: owning crypto means access to the private key. Your crypto belongs to whoever holds the key. Full lesson on Sahmino.com, so save this one.
