Iran's central bank high council approves and circulates rules for divesting banks' surplus assets through the capital market

Jul 28, 2026

The high council of Iran's central bank has approved and circulated to the banking network the procedure for divesting the banking system's properties and assets. The resolution sets out the route for selling banks' surplus assets through the capital market, and was reported on Tuesday 28 July 2026 (6 Mordad 1405).

Divesting surplus assets is a long standing requirement of balance sheet reform in Iran's banking system. Banks' non productive assets tie up part of their resources and weigh on their capital adequacy and lending capacity. Channelling these disposals through the capital market makes the price discovery mechanism more transparent, and it is a matter of interest to shareholders of the listed banks, which carry a significant weight in the main index.

US stock futures slip on Tuesday as a fresh chip selloff meets megacap earnings and the Fed decision

US stock index futures traded lower ahead of the open on Tuesday 28 July 2026 (6 Mordad 1405). S&P 500 futures dipped 0.1 percent and Nasdaq 100 futures fell 0.5 percent, while Dow futures rose 30 points, or 0.06 percent. The pressure came from a deepening selloff in chipmaker shares, as mounting doubts over the returns on billions of dollars of artificial intelligence spending dragged down Micron, Nvidia, SanDisk, AMD and SK Hynix from Wall Street to Asia. Markets are at the same time waiting for quarterly results from the megacap technology companies and the Federal Reserve's policy decision, both due this week. In Monday's regular session on 27 July, the Dow gained 0.51 percent and the S&P 500 rose 0.02 percent, while the Nasdaq Composite slipped 0.18 percent.
