Transcript

Of every hundred tomans traded on the Farabourse on Saturday, seventy two sat on government debt. That is sixty one trillion tomans, in a single session, resting on state borrowing. The Farabourse turned over eighty five trillion tomans; the Tehran bourse, forty four. Split the Farabourse turnover and close to three quarters of it is government paper. The same day, the fourteenth bond auction sold under half its offering, and banks took two percent. The heaviest ticker alone, Akhza twenty one oh four, took sixteen percent of Farabourse turnover. In Tehran, though, retail investors were net buyers of four point three six billion shares. The main index rose two point one eight percent, equal weight one and a half, Farabourse nearly two. This morning the heaviest buy queue was on Foulad, at seven hundred and five million shares. So Saturday told two stories: a record on the equity board, and the money on the debt board. Elsewhere, gold and coin eased slightly and Brent held above one hundred dollars. Today, watch the nine a.m. open and the bond share of Farabourse turnover. The verdict: Saturday belonged to government debt, not equities. Yesterday's reading held. So that answers the opening question. Our new reading: the bond share stays above fifty percent to the end of the week.
