According to Boursenews and IME Report, trading on the Iran Mercantile Exchange on Sunday, 8 Shahrivar 1405 (August 30, 2026), saw 2,409,750,283 units of gold investment funds change hands, worth 21.2 trillion tomans. Gold funds are instruments for indirect investment in gold whose units trade like shares on the commodity exchange. The high trading volume in these funds in recent days, alongside swings in the global gold price and rising geopolitical risk from the renewed US Iran tensions, points to strong retail investor demand for safe haven assets.

Global Gold Falls More Than 3 Percent as Tehran's Emami Coin Shows More Resilience

According to Arzdigital, published around 12:13pm on Saturday, 7 Shahrivar 1405 (August 29, 2026), the global gold ounce fell 3.36 percent to 4,455 dollars and the global silver ounce fell 4.49 percent to 66.38 dollars, but Iran's domestic market did not move in lockstep: 18 karat gold fell 0.8 percent per gram to 21,896,210 tomans and the gold mesghal fell the same percentage to 94,850,000 tomans, while the Emami coin eased only 0.13 percent to 217,500,000 tomans, a sign the coin's premium held up better than raw bullion against the global drop. A separate Khabaronline report published the same day said the weekly global gold decline, per the Wall Street Journal, was gold's biggest weekly drop since the week ending 15 Khordad (early June), following a peak of 4,696.18 dollars on Thursday. Iran's Gold Imports Plunged From 13 Tons to One Ton Over Five Months

Iran's latest customs data show the weight of gold imported into the country fell about 92.3 percent in the first five months of the current Iranian year compared to the same period last year, dropping from 13 tons to one ton. The dollar value of these imports fell from 1.256 billion dollars in the same five months last year to 97 million dollars this year, a decline of about 1.159 billion dollars. The report notes that the simultaneous drop in weight and value shows the decline is not simply a result of global gold price swings but reflects a sharp fall in the physical volume of gold imported.

Global Gold Ounce Retreats From Thursday's Morning High as Tehran's Domestic Rates Hold Steady

The global gold ounce, which reached $4,633 on the morning of Thursday, Shahrivar 5, 1405 (August 27, 2026), pulled back by midday. According to Donya-e-Eqtesad, published at 11:14 the same day, the ounce fell $23 to $4,597. Tgju.org recorded it at $4,607.90 at the same hour, and Alanchand.com put it at $4,598.06; all three readings show a retreat from the morning's level. Domestic gold and coin rates, however, barely moved: Tehran's gold mesghal stood at about 93,749,000 tomans at 11:39 on Sahmino's own price feed, almost unchanged from the morning's 93,680,000 tomans, and the Emami coin held near 214,000,000 tomans. The reason was a matching dip in the free market dollar rate, which Donya-e-Eqtesad put at 200,360 tomans, still reflecting the central bank's banknote supply operation that has been holding back the dollar rate since Tuesday.

The session high that morning was 221,626,000 rials. The rial price of domestic gold is the product of two variables: the global ounce and the free market dollar rate. Both rose over the past week, and that simultaneous move explains the pace of the domestic increase.

According to Tehran's Gold and Jewelry Union, reported by Ecoiran at 6:36 a.m. Friday, August 21, 2026, gold and coin prices in Tehran rose across the board. 18-karat gold reached 19,929,400 tomans per gram and 24-karat gold hit 26,569,000 tomans. The driver was a jump in global spot gold, which traded above $4,500 an ounce the same day and was on track for a third straight weekly gain, a move linked to the US Treasury's expanded debt buyback program and a weaker dollar. Earlier the same day, at 20:12, Arzdigital reported, citing the Tehran Gold and Jewelry Union's site, that 18-karat gold, up more than 2 percent over the prior 24 hours, was only 50,000 tomans short of the 20 million toman mark, while the Emami gold coin, up more than 4 million tomans, had reached about 198,700,000 tomans; Sahmino's own internal data had recorded the Emami coin at 16:59 Thursday at about 199,540,000 tomans, up 0.77 percent on the day.\n\nPer Arzdigital, the domestic rise came as global gold reclaimed the 4,500 dollar per ounce resistance level. Earlier that same Thursday, global gold had pulled back 0.6 percent to 4,495.69 dollars on investor profit taking, after jumping more than four percent on Wednesday. Deputy Economy Ministry Official: Of 400 Licensed Gold Platforms, Only About 9 Are Genuinely Active and Credible

Mohammadreza Hajijafari, deputy head of the Business Center at Iran's Ministry of Economy, said in remarks carried by Fars News Agency early on Thursday, 29 Mordad 1405 (August 20, 2026), that around 400 gold sales platforms currently hold licenses, but only about 9 of them are seriously and genuinely active in the market. He said oversight to prevent these platforms from selling gold they do not hold is currently done manually, through inquiries to the cyber police and regulatory bodies, and that the main fix is for the Central Bank to launch its supervisory system as soon as possible; an initial rollout has taken place, though the legal deadline for its completion was Bahman 1404 (February 2026). According to Arzdigital, the price of 18 karat gold in Iran's domestic market crossed the 19 million toman per gram threshold on Tuesday, August 11, 2026 (20 Mordad 1405), extending its upward trend into a new price band. A roughly one percent rise in the domestic dollar rate, together with a rise in the global gold price over the past week and the global ounce entering the 4,390 dollar band, were cited as the main drivers. The Emami gold coin rose 1.5 percent in the same session to around 189 million tomans, nearing the psychological 190 million toman mark. According to Sahmino's live price feed, by that evening (19:59 local time) 18 karat gold had risen 2.15 percent on the day to 192,056,000 rials and the Emami coin 1.6 percent to 1,894,850,000 rials, confirming the continuing upward trend in the domestic gold and coin market.

According to Ecoiran, reporting early Tuesday, 20 Mordad 1405 (August 11, 2026), citing Tehran's Gold and Jewelry Union, global spot gold rose to $4,410 an ounce. Separate data from TGJU recorded global gold at $4,414.36 an ounce over the same window, up $25.59, or more than 1 percent, from the previous day and about 4 percent higher than a week earlier. Tehran's domestic gold and coin market did not track the move, however, with every listed item posting a decline: Tehran's benchmark gold rate fell to 80,990,000 tomans, 18-karat gold to 18,696,700 tomans, and the new-design Bahar Azadi coin to 186,000,000 tomans, all down from the prior session. According to a separate SENA report on the same session, gold funds recorded inflows of retail money despite the negative tone of trading, with the value of buy orders exceeding sell orders. Silver funds also saw retail money come in during the same session.

Linking of Bank Mellat, Saman and Saderat to the gold platform supervisory system enters its final stages

According to a report by the IRNA news agency republished on Saturday 1 August 2026 (10 Mordad 1405), the operation to connect three banks, Mellat, Saman and Saderat, to the gold platform supervisory system has entered its final stages. The process is being run under the Article 18 working group on gold and silver platform rules and the central headquarters for combating goods and currency smuggling, and the banks will begin contracting with online gold and silver trading platforms once initial testing is complete. Connecting these three banks starts the removal of the monopoly over gold platform vaulting, although the same report notes that the executive steps will take time given the sensitivity of the matter. On 15 June 2026 (25 Khordad 1405) the Central Bank of Iran approved new rules on the vaulting of gold and silver bullion by legal entities it has approved, within the framework of the executive directive on online gold and silver trading. Under these rules, a credit institution holding final security clearance from the FARAJA police may operate as a vault after central bank approval, and the list of approved vaults is publicly announced.

The gram of 18 carat gold held in an 18.6 to 18.7 million toman band on Thursday as the weaker dollar offset the rising ounce

The Milli Gold platform quoted one gram of 18 carat gold at 18,631,000 tomans on the evening of Thursday, 30 July 2026 (8 Mordad 1405), a change of plus 0.39 percent over the previous 24 hours. The Alan Chand service quoted the gram of 18 carat gold at 18,710,470 tomans and the mithqal at 81,050,000 tomans at 17:35; the same service calculated the intrinsic value of a gram of 18 carat gold at that moment at 19,009,000 tomans, meaning domestic gold was trading about 1.57 percent below its global parity value. The domestic price stayed calm because its two anchors moved against each other. The global gold ounce rose roughly 1.1 to 1.2 percent over the same hours to the 4,102 to 4,110 dollar range, while the free-market dollar fell 0.57 percent back to the 192,000 toman area. Because the rial gold price is the product of those two variables, the two moves largely cancelled each other out.

Gold and foreign exchange moved in opposite directions in Tehran's market on Thursday, 8 Mordad 1405 (30 July 2026). Eghtesad Online attributed the fall in domestic gold to a decline in the global gold ounce, which the report recorded at $4,040.83, some $16.48 below the previous day.

Head of Tehran Gold and Jewellery Union: a lower global ounce did not stop domestic gold and coin from rising, and demand stays weak

The head of the Tehran Gold and Jewellery Union said on Wednesday, 29 July 2026 that despite a decline in the global gold ounce, a rising exchange rate pushed domestic gold and coin prices higher. He added that the market nonetheless remains in a demand slump during the month of Safar. Reports the same day put the ounce's decline at roughly 4 to 5 dollars and its price around 4,032 dollars, leaving it inside the 4,000 dollar channel. In the domestic market the direction was the opposite: a gram of 18-karat gold was reported at 18,699,300 tomans at 14:00 that day, and the Emami coin traded around 187 million tomans. According to Sahmino's price data, 18-karat gold was up 2.25 percent on the day as of 14:30 on Wednesday, 29 July 2026. The mechanism the union official describes is straightforward: when the exchange rate rises, the rial price of gold rises even with a flat or falling ounce, because the domestic price is the product of the ounce and the exchange rate.

Gold and coin jump again on Wednesday as 18 carat gold reaches 18.7 million tomans

Iran's domestic gold and coin market extended its gains through the middle of the day on Wednesday 29 July 2026 (7 Mordad 1405). As of 13:29 Tehran time, a gram of 18 carat gold was up 1.96 percent from the previous day at 18,700,100 tomans, having traded at around 18,292,000 tomans in the early hours of the same day. At the same time the Emami coin was up 1.89 percent at 187,480,000 tomans and the Bahar Azadi coin up 2.07 percent at 183,790,000 tomans. The free market dollar stood at 193,000 tomans at that point, 1.47 percent above the previous day. Gold on the global market was changing hands at 4,033 dollars an ounce at the same hour, a move of 0.14 percent, so the rise in rial gold and coin prices on the day moved largely in step with the domestic exchange rate. Global markets are awaiting the Federal Reserve's interest rate decision on the evening of Wednesday 29 July.

Assets of the Rose Toranj gold fund reach 10,000 billion tomans over one year

Mehr News Agency and Eghtesad Online reported on Tuesday 28 July 2026 that assets under management at the Rose Toranj gold fund have reached 10,000 billion tomans, a rise of 900 percent over one year. Gold-based commodity funds are a vehicle for indirect investment in gold: instead of buying physical coins or bullion, the investor trades fund units on the exchange. Rapid growth in the assets of such funds is generally read as a sign that part of retail liquidity is seeking a hedge against currency volatility and inflation. The report was published on a day when, according to market coverage, gold and silver funds on the Tehran exchange closed lower on Tuesday 28 July, with part of the liquidity rotating into fixed income funds.

Gold and silver funds close lower on Tuesday as money moves into fixed income funds

Precious metals investment funds on the Tehran Stock Exchange fell in trading on Tuesday, 28 July 2026 (6 Mordad 1405). According to Tejarat News, about 80 percent of gold and silver funds ended the day in negative territory, and a modest rise in the dollar rate was not enough to keep the market positive; the report said a decline in global prices turned the sheet around. Tejarat News also reported that 970 billion tomans flowed into fixed income funds the same day. Sahmino's own price data support that picture: the global gold ounce traded about 0.8 percent lower, around 4,045 dollars, during the same day, while the free market dollar stood at 190,200 tomans as of 19:59 on Tuesday, up 1.17 percent. Unit prices of gold commodity funds are tied to the rial price of the metal, which is the product of the global ounce and the exchange rate. When a fall in the ounce outweighs a rise in the currency, the value of these funds' underlying assets declines. Global traders were meanwhile waiting for the Federal Reserve's interest rate decision on Wednesday.

Gold and coin rose in Tehran on Tuesday 6 Mordad while the global ounce retreated

Tehran's gold and coin market moved higher on Tuesday, 6 Mordad 1405 (28 July 2026). According to the newspaper Donya-e-Eqtesad the same day, the price of 18 carat gold rose and the Emami coin traded higher at 184.9 million tomans. The notable feature of the day was that the domestic market moved in the opposite direction to the global one. Sahmino's own price data showed the global gold ounce at $4,044.95, down about 0.8 percent as of 12:07 that day, while a gram of domestic 18 carat gold was about 1.3 percent higher as of 12:28. The driver of the divergence is the exchange rate: the free market dollar was about 1.5 percent above the previous day as of 12:25 the same day. When the global ounce falls but the rial weakens, the rial price of gold can still rise, because the domestic price is the product of the global ounce and the exchange rate. In global markets, investors are also waiting for the Federal Reserve interest rate decision on Wednesday.

Tehran gold and coin market opens Tuesday little changed; Emami coin at 185.5 million tomans

Iran's domestic gold and coin market opened Tuesday morning, 28 July 2026 (6 Mordad 1405), effectively level with Monday's closing rates. On the AlanChand price board at 07:30 that day, a gram of 18 carat gold was quoted at 18,214,140 tomans, the new design Emami coin at 185,500,000 tomans and a mithqal of melted gold at 78,900,000 tomans. Those levels sit close to Monday's final rates in the daily archive of the Gold and Currency Information Network: there, 18 carat gold closed Monday, 5 Mordad, at 18,209,300 tomans, up 1.85 percent, and the Emami coin at 185,495,000 tomans, up 2.21 percent. Monday's advance followed two consecutive declining sessions on Saturday, 3 Mordad, and Sunday, 4 Mordad. Both external drivers were slightly lower on Tuesday morning: spot gold stood at $4,049.67 an ounce and was quoted lower at the same hour, and the free market dollar selling rate was 187,550 tomans, against the 187,985 tomans shown on Sahmino's price board at 19:59 on Monday. Gold's price in Iran is the product of the global ounce and the free market dollar rate, and the relative steadiness of both in the early hours of Tuesday explains the calm in the domestic market.

The case of 10 gold bars at Imam Khomeini airport: the owner claims the consignment was swapped, and a new case is opened

Tasnim News Agency, in a report carried by Eghtesad Online on Tuesday, 28 July 2026 (6 Mordad 1405), reviewed documents from a customs case concerning gold bars brought in through the passenger channel at Imam Khomeini International Airport. According to those documents, on 22 November 2023 (1 Azar 1402) a consignment described as "yellow metal" arrived at the airport from Dubai through the passenger channel, at a time when a cabinet decision allowing exporters to discharge their foreign currency obligations by importing standard gold bullion was in force. The report says closed circuit camera footage shows a backpack containing 10 bars being handed to another person after passing through the passenger x-ray. Iran Customs drew up a seizure record on 23 November 2023 and the goods were held in trust at the airport's public warehouses. The documents show that no formal determination of the goods' nature had been made by 10 June 2024 (20 Khordad 1403), yet on that date an abandoned goods declaration was filed describing the item as "gold bullion". A smuggling case was heard by the State Discretionary Punishment Organisation and the defendant was acquitted at first instance. According to the documents, when the owner came to collect the consignment he claimed the goods in the warehouse were not the original 10 bars. A report drawn up in the presence of an expert from the gold and jewellery union stated that the goods in the warehouse were not gold bullion, and a new case has been opened into the fate of the original consignment. Tasnim said it is continuing to seek explanations from the relevant authorities.

Gold funds slide on Sunday as the dollar falls while silver funds close positive against the market

The fall in the dollar during Sunday 26 July 2026 trading passed selling pressure through to gold-backed investment funds, leaving most of that market in negative territory. According to Tejarat News, silver-backed funds took a different path and closed in positive territory on the back of a bullish outlook for the metal. Sahmino's own price feed recorded a 2.1 percent fall in the dollar by the evening of Sunday 26 July. Unit prices of gold commodity funds are tied to the rial price of the metal, so a stronger rial reduces the value of those funds' underlying assets. The divergence between the two groups of funds in a single session shows that silver and gold investors did not read the market's direction the same way in this session.

Iran's 152nd gold bullion auction set for Tuesday, July 28; margin deadline is Monday

Iran's Currency and Gold Exchange Center said its 152nd gold bullion auction will be held on Tuesday, 6 Mordad 1405 (28 July 2026), from 14:00 to 17:00 on the centre's trading floor. According to the notice, applicants have until Monday, 5 Mordad (27 July) to deposit a margin of 50 billion rials (5 billion tomans) for each bar they request. The purchase ceiling is 25 bars per applicant per week, and four groups of gold-industry participants are eligible to take part. The weekly bullion auctions are one of the Exchange Center's tools for meeting investment demand in the gold market. At the 151st auction, held on Tuesday, 30 Tir 1405 (21 July 2026), 24 kilograms of the 26 kilograms of bars offered were sold, for about 581.592 billion tomans. This week's session comes as the domestic gold market retreats: the Emami coin stood at 181.98 million tomans as of 15:34 on Sunday, 26 July 2026, down 1.37 percent on the day.

Gold Union: the Bahar Azadi coin fell 6.3 million tomans in one week

The head of Iran's Gold and Jewellery Union said on Saturday, 25 July 2026, that the gold and coin market had been through a volatile week and closed lower overall. According to the announcement, the full Bahar Azadi coin fell 6.3 million tomans over the week, and each gram of 18-carat gold fell 712,000 tomans. He said the main driver of the decline was the drop in the exchange rate from midweek, which passed through to the whole domestic gold market. By Saturday evening, 25 July, the Bahar Azadi coin was trading at about 179.8 million tomans and the Emami coin at about 184.5 million tomans, both down roughly 2 to 2.7 percent on the day. Iran's domestic gold market is the product of two variables: the global ounce price and the free-market dollar rate. In recent days the global ounce has hovered around 4,050 dollars, so most of the domestic price change has come from the currency side, which is also why the coin premium compressed this week.

Tehran gold and coin prices close lower on Saturday while the global ounce holds flat

Iran's domestic gold and coin market held its losses through the close of trading hours on Saturday, 25 July 2026. In the 17:30 Tehran time update, a gram of 18-carat gold traded at about 183 million rials (roughly 18.3 million tomans) and a mesghal of melted gold at 792.8 million rials (79.28 million tomans). The new-design Emami coin stood at 184.5 million tomans, the Bahar Azadi coin at 180 million tomans, the half-coin at 94 million tomans and the quarter-coin at 53 million tomans. Price sources do not fully agree on the exact size of Saturday's decline, reporting the drop in 18-carat gold at between roughly 2% and 3%; both sources put the Emami coin's fall at about 2.1%. What distinguishes this session is that the decline did not track the global market: at the same hour, spot gold stood at $4,052 an ounce, essentially unchanged (down 0.01%), with silver at $58.18. On that basis, Saturday's move in the domestic market reflected the open-market exchange rate rather than the world price of the metal.

Iran's 18-karat gold falls about 2.8% on Saturday

Iran's domestic gold market turned lower on Saturday, 25 July 2026 (3 Mordad 1405). In midday trading (around 11:30 Tehran time), each gram of 18-karat gold traded near 18,330,000 tomans, about 2.8% (roughly 520,000 tomans per gram) below last week's close. The decline has two main roots: the pullback in the global gold ounce, which settled near $4,050 on Friday, and a firmer rial, which lowered the input cost of domestic gold. The free-market dollar's slide into the 191,000-toman range, alongside regional mediation efforts aimed at cooling tensions, trimmed safe-haven demand in the local market.

Gold and coin rally in Wednesday trading as global bullion holds above $4,100

Iran's gold and coin market turned higher in trading on Wednesday, 22 July 2026 (31 Tir 1405), after an early dip, with most items changing hands above their opening prices. Based on the latest market data around 11:30 that day, one gram of 18 karat gold traded at about 18.9 million tomans (up roughly 2.6 percent from the prior day) and one mithqal of gold at about 82 million tomans. The Emami coin rose about 2.2 percent to around 190 million tomans, and the coin premium widened sharply in the session. The main driver was the climb in global bullion, which held above $4,100 and near $4,130 an ounce in Wednesday trade. Safe haven demand amid regional military tensions and anticipation of next week's Federal Reserve meeting has underpinned the advance.

Gold and Coins Retreat on Tuesday, July 21; Emami Coin Near 182 Million Tomans, 18-Karat Gram Around 18.1 Million

Iran's gold and coin market edged lower on Tuesday, July 21, 2026 (30 Tir 1405). According to the daily Donya-e-Eqtesad, the full Bahar Azadi (Emami) gold coin traded at around 182 million tomans and the half coin at about 92.5 million tomans during the session, both slightly below Monday, July 20, when the Emami coin had ranged between 183 and 185 million tomans. A gram of 18-karat gold was priced at roughly 18.1 million tomans on Tuesday. The domestic pullback tracked a swing in the global gold ounce around the 4,000 dollar area (near its lowest level in several months) and a relatively calmer currency market, with the free-market dollar hovering around 189,000 tomans the same day. Domestic gold prices are a product of the global ounce and the exchange rate, and those two variables set the daily direction of the coin market.

Gold and coin retreat Monday; 18-carat gram slips below 18.3 million toman, Emami coin near 185 million

Iran's gold and coin market pulled back from near its record highs on Monday, 20 July 2026 (29 Tir 1405). The 18-carat gram opened the day around 18,765,000 toman and by midday (about 11:30 local time) traded near 18,282,000 toman, a drop of roughly 2.6% from the previous day. The Emami coin, which had changed hands near 188,500,000 toman on Sunday (28 Tir), eased to about 184,990,000 toman on Monday, down around 2.2%. The retreat came while the global gold ounce held little changed near $4,018, close to its nine-month low. Today's domestic decline was therefore tied mainly to a cooling of buying demand and swings in the free-market dollar, which traded in a range of about 190,000 to 193,000 toman, rather than to the world price.

64 kg of gold bars sold at Tuesday's Exchange Center auction; average 9.346 billion tomans per bar

Iran's Currency and Gold Exchange Center (Markaz Mobadeleh) held its 116th gold bar auction on Tuesday, 14 July 2026 (23 Tir 1405). Of the 115 kilograms of gold bars offered, 64 kilograms were sold for more than 598 billion tomans, at an average price of 9.346 billion tomans per standard bar. According to the report, 19 gold bar auctions have been held at the Exchange Center since the start of the Iranian year 1405, selling a combined 1,506 kilograms for 13,253 billion tomans. The auctions are a government tool to meet market gold demand and calm prices, and they come on days when the free market dollar has climbed above 180,000 tomans. About 51 kilograms of the bars offered went unsold, pointing to less than full buyer appetite at these price levels.

18-carat gold and the Emami coin rise in Tuesday trading as a weaker rial outweighs a steady global ounce

Domestic gold and coin prices rose on Tuesday, 14 July 2026. Jamejam reported that each gram of 18-carat gold entered the 17.6 million toman range, while Sahmino's price service showed it near 17.8 million toman (up about 0.7 percent) by around 11:35. The Emami coin reached about 179.5 million toman, up roughly 1.4 percent per Sahmino data, and the mesghal of gold sat in the 77 million toman range. The gains came while the global gold ounce hovered near 4,000 dollars, so the main driver of the domestic rise was the weaker rial and the climbing free-market dollar rather than the world price.

Gold and coin prices fall in Iran's domestic market Saturday; 18 karat gold down 2.33 percent, Emami coin down 2.82 percent

Gold and coin prices turned lower in Iran's domestic market on Saturday, July 11, 2026 (20 Tir 1405). One gram of 18 karat gold fell 4,082,000 tomans, or 2.33 percent, to 17,528,700 tomans as of 2:34 pm Tehran time. Global spot gold traded around 4,121 dollars an ounce in the same window. According to Ecoiran, easing regional tensions and continued diplomatic consultations between Iran, the United States and Oman over the Strait of Hormuz have reduced safe haven demand for gold and coins, contributing to today's domestic price declines.

18-Karat Gold Nears 18-Million-Toman Peak in Iran

A gram of 18-karat gold in Tehran rose 201,000 tomans from the previous day to reach 17,999,000 tomans on Thursday, July 9, 2026 (18 Tir), edging toward the 18-million-toman mark. According to Shargh newspaper, a mesghal (a traditional 4.6-gram unit) of 17-karat gold climbed 873,000 tomans to 77,975,000 tomans. The simultaneous rise in the free-market dollar rate and the global gold price, combined with heightened precautionary demand amid escalating regional tensions, was cited as the main driver of the increase.
