The Tehran Stock Exchange's TEDPIX index opened Sunday, 4 Mordad 1405 (26 July 2026) with an 80,560 unit jump already recorded in its first print at 09:05, and stood at 4,977,231 by 11:05, up 1.69 percent from Saturday's close and less than 23,000 units below the 5 million mark. Here is the point: only 2,218 units were added across two hours of continuous trading, meaning roughly 97 percent of today's gain was priced before the first trade. The equal weighted index rose 2.08 percent.

Transcript

The Tehran market did something you rarely see today: it jumped before trading began. By eleven o'clock the main index stood at four million nine hundred seventy seven thousand units. The opening print was eighty thousand five hundred sixty units above Saturday's close. In two hours of continuous trading, only two thousand two hundred eighteen units were added. The equal weighted index rose two point zero eight percent, running ahead of the main index. That means the gain is not riding on a few heavyweights; the whole market joined in. Less than twenty three thousand units now separate the index from the five million mark. Three paths ahead: hold the gain, give part of it back, or test five million. Qatar said maritime navigation for all vessels has returned to normal from today. Gold, the global ounce, Bitcoin and Brent crude all stood almost still today. Equities react to expectations, but the cash currency market usually waits for realisation. Watch four things through the close, from the index to the dollar's reaction. Today was a news day, not a trading day; the gain came before the bell. So that first number: the gain came before the first trade. Will the index clear five million?
